Biography

Lucy Samuels enjoys a varied career as a freelancer based in Birmingham, UK, both as a performer and educator.

She works regularly as an extra with Birmingham Royal Ballet, following her time as their inaugural Student-in-Residence in 2022.

Lucy's performance practice is motivated by collaborating with other musicians, and she forms part of numerous ensembles, including the Tenby Duo, Félicité Piano Trio, Infinite Opera Company and Filkin's Ensemble. 

Recent highlights of these collaborations include making her concerto debut in 2022, being awarded the prestigious Leamington Music Prize and making her folk festival debut last summer.

Her work as a cellist is far-reaching, encompassing outreach and educational programmes as well as performing. She tutors on several educational prohects alongside the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire including SoundLab BRUM, LEAP Ensemble and Cello Gym and teaches in a primary school one day a week with the InHarmony programme.

She began her studies aged 7 under Judith Barnby through the Berkshire Maestros trust and is currently completing her Postgraduate Certificate, studying with Matthew Sharp and Eduardo Vassallo.
