Soloist

As a soloist, Lucy's output is varied. She enjoys exploring works from the classical canon, as well as newly composed works and often strives to programme concerts which showcase both sides of these interests. Her aim with programming can be summed up as: getting audiences excited about music, both works new and old.

Recently performed repertoire includes:

Bach - Cello Suite in D Minor

Beach - Dreaming

Beethoven - Cello Sonata in A Major, Op. 69

Boulanger - Trois Pièces for Cello and Piano

Dvorak - Cello Concerto in B Minor, Op. 104

Hanifin - Wenonah

Jacob TV - May This Bliss Never End

Martinu - Variations on a Slovakian Theme

Nyman - Double Concerto for Amplified Saxophone

and Cello

Ornstein - Cello Sonata No.2, SO 613

Summers - Julie-O

Tenby Duo

In summer 2021, Nicole (saxophone) and Lucy (cello) formed the Tenby Duo. This unlikely pairing of instruments came about after a chance conversation in their student house, and has become an integral part of both their musical careers. Nicole and Lucy were fortunate enough to make both their concerto debuts on the 1 April 2022 with the RBC Symphony Orchestra, performing Michael Nyman's Double Concerto for Amplified Saxophone and Cello. As well as the Nyman Concerto, the Tenby Duo seek to explore underperformed music, having played contemporary works by composers such as Howard Skempton and Svante Henryson, as well as largely forgotten works for saxophone and cello like Alphonse Stallaert’s Bestiaire. They have performed at various venues and festivals across the UK, including the Westbury Arts Festival and Holy Trinity Church, Stratford-upon-Avon.

Felicite Piano Trio

The Félicité Piano Trio is made up of violinist Ricardo Brown Roger, cellist Lucy Samuels and pianist Lucy Eccleshall, and was formed in 2018 whilst the trio were studying undergraduate performance degrees at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. In 2020, they completed a studio recording of the Brahms Piano Trio in B Major, Op. 8 (revised version). In 2021, they were invited to attend the prestigious Cadenza International Music Summer School where they performed Shostakovich’s Piano Trio No.2. In 2022, they were awarded the Leamington Music Prize for their performance of a programme of works all by female composers: Lili Boulanger's D'Un Matin de Printemps and Clara Schumann's Piano Trio in G Minor, Op. 17, which they continue to tour around the UK.

Filkin's Ensemble

The Filkin’s Ensemble, billed as ‘Birmingham’s premier folk supergroup’, is the bold vision of Seth Bye and Chris Roberts. This ensemble, fronted by singer Ellie Gowers, brings together 15 of the UK’s finest young folk musicians in an adventurous collaboration.

The ensemble explores British folk traditions through the lens of the diverse metropolitan hub that is Birmingham. Their contemporary arrangements of traditional folk repertoire combine a string quartet, wind section, guitars, and orchestral percussion along with Ellie’s lucent vocals. Drawing heavily from classical, jazz and folk traditions, their distinctive style of ‘orchestral folk’ forges a new path for folk music.
